John Novalis
Board Member
John Novalis is a retired Brigadier General from Williamsport, Pennsylvania, a 1987 graduate of the United States Military Academy, and a retired Army Aviation Officer. He is currently a Joint Forces Senior Associate with Booz Allen Hamilton.
John’s key duty assignments have included Executive Assistant to Martin Dempsey, the 18th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, where he provided broad thinking, clear judgement, and personal counsel while assisting the Chairman in articulating independent military advice on strategic policies to both the President of the United States and Secretary of Defense from 2015-2017.
Among his many roles he has been the Deputy Chief of Staff Operations, Multinational Corps Northeast (NATO) located in Szczecin, Poland where he directed Joint Operations for the NATO Corps and maintained U.S. strategic imperatives across northeastern Europe. Prior to that he was the Assistant Deputy Commander – Sustainment, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Assistant Land Force Commander – Sustainment and Training, Operation Resolute Support, Iraq, where he managed theater logistics, sustainment, and base development.
BG(R) Novalis has had a number of contingency deployments to include tours of duty to Haiti for humanitarian support, and three years of combat operations in Iraq and one year in Afghanistan. He is an Apache (AH-64D) pilot with over 500 combat hours, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Military Academy in Economics, and master’s degrees from Webster University in Human Resources, and in National Security Strategy from the United States National War College.
